Spent the last couple of days exploring Astoria, OR and the surrounding area. Lots of family time to both prep the kids and distract them from what is about to happen. We climbed the 164 steps to the top of the Astoria Column, traveled across the Astoria-Megler bridge to Washington, went to the beach, played mini golf, drove go carts, did a ropes course, walked around, ate good food, and ate junk food. We even briefly experienced the rather foreign substance that some refer to as rain. But now it's time to ride...

Tomorrow is Day 1. As far as riding goes it will a short one, actually the shortest of the trip. I meet my travel mates at 11 am, we will have lunch, and then head out for a 30 mile out and back ride to touch the Pacific Ocean at Fort Stevens State Park. I might still be in denial that this is actually happening.

Day 1 - Details

  • Distance: 30 miles

  • Elevation gain: 783 ft

I was in Idaho for the weekend and it was pretty smoky from the Oregon fires. Did you encounter any of that? Have fun tomorrow!

Replying to

We encountered a bunch of smoke in northern CA and southern OR. It got back around Redding, CA and then started to clear up after Medford, OR.
