Today was brutal. It may have been a "short" ride, but it definitely was not an easy ride. Today may have been the strongest winds we've faced the entire trip. On top of that we had an 8-9 mile stretch on a gravel bike path. Crosswinds on gravel are no joke.

Outside of the winds it was a pretty straightforward ride. We were on and off bike paths all day as we made our way from one small town to another. It was also our last truly flat day. The elevation gain is going to start picking up again as we make our way towards the mountains.

As for tomorrow, I think our luck is about to run out. Other than our short ride into Missoula we've pretty much escaped the rain. However, a fall storm is making its way across Ohio and the weather report says 100% chance of rain for tomorrow. I guess we'll be getting wet!

Day 35 stats:

  • distance: 86.5 miles

  • elevation gain: 1388 ft

    • 26 oz skratch superfuel, 52 oz zym

Day 36 details - Oberlin to Newbury

Personally, I never like to roll out on a ride when it's raining but if I'm already riding and get caught in the rain it doesn't seem that bad. Once you get wet, it doesn't seem to matter anymore. In fact, rainy rides typically become quite memorable experiences! You have good tires plus disc brakes to get you safely through the wet roads! Good luck tomorrow and as long as it doesn't get cold, you may actually enjoy the ride 😀🚲
